The Makapu’u Tide Pools..

On the South East point of the island of Oahu lies the Makapu’u Lighthouse. Directly off Kalanianaole Highway is a parking lot and a paved road which takes you straight to the Makapu’u Lighthouse lookout. Park your car and take a rather easy stroll up the trail to the top of the hill to find the most amazing view of the windward side of Oahu.  However, if you are the more adventurous type, you can take a little detour off the paved path and hike down the rocky mountain side to find the most beautiful tide pools imaginable!  Be careful though! I do not suggest this hike to just anyone. You must be very careful walking down and back up the mountain side since it is pretty steep and the rocks are unstable. It can be dangerous for the unskilled hiker. But once you make it down the mountain and cross over the rocks you will find a handful of inviting crystal clear tide pools laying right before your eyes. Swim in the pools, play with the sea creatures, or just lie out on the rocks and soak up some sun. It honestly does not matter what you do while you are there, you will just be glad that you went! The tide pools are absolutely breathtaking and definitely unlike any other!
